Pyrosoma atlanticum

A Pyrosome, or "Corn Cob Jelly." This animal is about the size of its namesake, and although gelatinous, it isn't a true jellyfish.

Photographed at Coral Garden, Anacapa Isl., Channel Islands National Marine in Southern California on September 7, 1999 with a Canon F1n in Ikelite Housing, 100mm macro lens, 2 Ikelite 50 strobes. Fuji Velvia.
