Giant kelpfish Heterostichus
rostratus
Giant kelpfish are typically colored brown to match their usual habitat: kelp. Is it coincidence that this one, sitting in red algae, is so red?.
Photographed at Coral Garden, Anacapa Isl., Channel Islands National Marine in Southern California on September 7, 1999 with a Nikon F4 with 60mm macro lens, two Ikelite 50 strobes. Fuji Velvia.
