A single translucent stalk of Giant Kelp grows toward nourishing sunlight. Its taller neighbors already put most of the kelp bed in shadow.

Photographed at Octopus\' Garden, San Clemente Isl., Channel Islands Nationa in Southern California on September 1, 2001 with a Nikon F4 with 16mm fisheye lens, two YS 350 strobes. Provia 100F.
