Image ID: 627P158, Blowhole

A Blowhole along the shore of Santa Barbara Island in Southern California. Blowholes occur when a shelf of rock with a hole in the middle of it exists near the surface of the ocean. Wave action forces water upward under the shelf, and then the hole acts like a nozzle.

Photographed at Channel Islands, CA in Southern California on September 5, 2021 with a D7200, 80-400mm VR lens.
